Visit & Explore
A visit to Bristol isn’t complete without a trip across the multi-award-winning Clifton Suspension Bridge. As well as being a sightseeing must-see, the iconic bridge has a free Visitor Centre where tourists, families and locals alike can learn when, how and why Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s first bridge was built.
Clifton Suspension Bridge is the most Instagrammable place in Bristol and the seventh most popular place for photos in the whole of the UK! According to Google, the most popular photo spot is the base of the western tower on the Clifton side of the bridge. Make sure you get your photograph in front of the best view, whether that’s at sunrise or sunset.
The Clifton Suspension Bridge Visitor Centre is funded entirely by your donations, ticket sales and sales from the Visitor Centre shop. Pick up a postcard, book, souvenir, ice cream and plenty more. Plus, use our free Wifi or buy a coffee from the Chapter & Holmes Coffee Cart, trading throughout the summer.
The welcoming and accessible Visitor Centre is free to enter and is run by a team of friendly volunteers who are happy to share the secrets of Clifton Suspension Bridge’s history with you. Watch a film about its construction, learn how suspension bridges work, discover unusual objects from the Clifton Suspension Bridge collection and find out how the bridge is maintained today.
Free and ticketed tours and events take place at Clifton Suspension Bridge throughout the year, as well as children’s activities which are on offer at the Visitor Centre for visitors and schools.
