Clifton Suspension Bridge Lighting Project

We are proposing to upgrade the lighting on the Bridge with a cutting edge, environmentally friendly and sustainable lighting system. This will form part of a major programme of repairs and maintenance for the ongoing conservation of this Grade 1 listed structure.

The new state-of-the-art lighting will increase the level of illumination at road level enhancing the safety of pedestrians, cyclists and the bridge attendants during hours of darkness as well as highlighting some of the key architectural features of the Bridge. The lighting system will be discreetly designed to avoid any damage to the listed structure and minimise any intrusive visual impact or disturbance to local wildlife.

The project also offers a wonderful opportunity to creatively light the Bridge in different colours in celebration of key local or national events. This will enrich and improve the quality of visitors’ experiences and enhance the Bridge’s status as an iconic landmark and focal point for the city.
