Jobs & Volunteering
Since 1st January 1953 the Clifton Suspension Bridge has been managed and maintained by the Clifton Suspension Bridge Trust (CSBT), a not-for-profit charity. The Trust does not receive any local or national government funding but must raise monies to preserve the bridge in perpetuity to the highest possible standards. An Act of Parliament ensures that toll money collected from bridge crossings is used specifically to achieve this aim.

Volunteering
We’re always looking for volunteers to join our friendly team – and we have a range of roles available! You can give as much or as little time as you’d like, and there’s no obligation to commit to regular shifts if that doesn’t suit your lifestyle. Choose to greet visitors at our museum and share your knowledge of the local area with tourists from all over the world; take a seat in our gift shop and help us to raise money by selling souvenirs; or share your knowledge, expertise or passion for the past as a tour guide.
Please click here to find out more about each role, or fill out our enquiry form if you’d like to find out more about our volunteering opportunities.
Student Placements
If you are undertaking a PGCE or an undergraduate or postgraduate qualification in History, Museum Studies, Archives/Records Management or Tourism we may be able to offer you an unpaid placement opportunity to help you gain course credit. We’ll work with you to set tasks and challenges that will help you meet your academic goals whilst experiencing working behind-the-scenes in our busy Museum. We’re also happy to facilitate students studying English as a Foreign Language via your Language School or placement co-ordinator.
Depending on availability we are able to offer:
- Part time, short term placements working with the Visitor Services team on an assigned project
- One day a week (to suit your lecture timetable) helping out as an office assistant
- Volunteering Opportunities as a member of our Front of House team, tour guide or ‘Explainer’
- Volunteering hours toward a project goal such as Duke of Edinburgh or Arts Award
Paid opportunities such as internship placements will be advertised through UWE or University of Bristol’s own recruitment portals – please speak to your lecturer or Careers Hub to find out what’s available.
Schools Work Experience
The Visitor Services team are able to offer a limited number of work experience placements for secondary school pupils each year. Pupils will be working in a customer-facing role, engaging with the public, aiding tour groups and handling shop stock and money. The week may also involve some behind-the-scenes work with objects from the collection and representing the Trust at meetings with external partners. We are able to tailor placements to suit the needs of individuals based on the current projects being undertaken.
Sorry – Placements for 2026 have all been allocated.
