What is an engineer? Why do we have bridges? What are the requirements of a bridge?
These are the kind of questions we delve into in our most popular workshop. After a tour of the bridge, highlighting how it is built and its different components, your group will learn to identify different types of bridges and their usage. Participants will then work in small teams to design and build a bridge to cross a one metre gap using limited materials. These bridges will then be judged on strength, cost and aesthetic appeal – who will win the challenge?
During this workshop, pupils will gain an understanding of the purpose of bridges, how they work, and specifically the Clifton Suspension Bridge and its component parts. Booking is essential.
