There will be a weekend bridge closure at the Clifton Suspension Bridge as contractors Taziker carry out preparation and painting work to the land chains at road level and further scaffolding works.
The bridge will be closed to all road users including cyclists from 7.00pm on Friday 25th July to 7.00am on Monday 28th July 2025. Throughout the weekend, a diversion route will be signed using Bridge Valley Road, Brunel Way and A369 Rownham Hill.
Traffic following the official signed diversion routes from the bridge during these times will be exempt from Bristol City Council’s Clean Air Zone. To find out more visit www.bristol.gov.uk/caz.
Bridge Master, Trish Johnson, said “As part of this project to conserve the bridge for many years to come, we need to schedule occasional road closures to carry out works safely. During these closures our contractor, Taziker, will be undertaking scaffolding works, preparation works to the chains and painting the chains from the roadway. We will also take advantage of the closure to conduct inspections and general maintenance.
“During these bridge closures pedestrians will still be able to use the bridge, but cycling will be prohibited. Cyclists may dismount and walk across the bridge, but as only one narrow footway will be open, cyclists are requested to avoid using the bridge if possible.
“An announcement regarding plans for the annual closures during the Bristol Balloon Fiesta will follow shortly.
“Clifton Suspension Bridge Trust wishes to apologise for the inconvenience which these closures will cause. We hope that by keeping the road open during weekdays we will minimise the disruption caused.”
