The Victorians were brilliant innovators and inventors. They spent lots of time creating amazing new things that nobody had ever seen before – like the Clifton Suspension Bridge and Crystal Palace. They also loved inventing new colour combinations: some of the outfits that fancy Victorians wore would seem very strange to us today.
Victorian clothes often had lots of layers and rich people and servants to help dress them as they could not put them on themselves.
Take a look at this dressing sequence!
Today’s challenge is to create your own Victorian costume using things you can find at home, then pose for your very own Victorian portrait. Don’t forget the accessories!
Things you could use:
- Towels
- Blankets
- Cushions
- Bedsheets
- Ribbons
- Belts
- Hats
Can you make costumes for all your family and take a family portrait? Victorians always look grumpy in their photographs because the photograph took
so long to take! They had to pose for 30 seconds; can you hold a smile that long?
